Khan-academy una estrategia innovadora para mejorar la calidad en la educación superior a través del rendimiento académico de los estudiantes

Resumen

The implementation of information and communication technologies in higher education is considered as an innovative educational strategy for the teaching and learning processes, which contributes to the strengthening of quality education through the improvement of students’ academic performance. The aim of this research was to measure the relation between the work done on the Khan-Academy technology platform and the students’ academic performance achieved in the subject Differential Calculus, in a sample of 175 students from a Higher Education Institution in Santander – Colombia. The methodology was quantitative with the use of Pearson’s coefficient of multiple correlation and the ANOVA technique. The results show that students who used the platform improved their grades after working on out-of classroom practical exercises and before they took their written exams. Through Pearson’s coefficient, a positive and significant correlation between the variables group, dominates, earned points and final grade of r=.50 (p-value <.000) is observed. This indicates that with greater use of the platform, students’ grades are progressively increased. Moreover, the ANOVA demonstrates significant differences between the gender variable and the final grade got (p <.000). Finally, it can be concluded that Khan-academy is a useful tool in the teaching of Differential Calculus that demands the incorporation of information technologies in the educational processes to promote the development of mathematical skills and to assure the quality in higher education.
