Abstract

The Internet of Things or IoT technologies have generated great impact in different sectors of society, including education. In the department of Santander (Colombia), IoT projects and initiatives have been developed for the agricultural sector and higher education, leaving aside the educational context in rural areas. In terms of technological appropriation, this has been based only on the provision of ICT resources, without considering other technologies such as IoT. Therefore, in the department, there is an inadequate and integrated appropriation of ICT and technological trends such as IoT to the needs and particularities of rural education. This research aims to guide, in a systemic way, the appropriation of IoT technologies in educational and/or pedagogical innovation in rural areas of Santander, based on a systemic model and a pilot implementation plan. For its achievement, this research is framed in a qualitative and systemic approach. As main results, it was possible to characterize the rural areas of Santander in terms of appropriation of ICT, IoT, educational and pedagogical innovation; a systemic model of appropriation of IoT for education in rural areas of Santander was designed; and a plan for the implementation of the IoT appropriation model was developed along with guidelines for its future replication.
