Abstract
Obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is a systemic disease that involves multiple organs. This article discusses the relationship between OSAHS and other diseases that compromise the respiratory system such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, chronic cough, alveolar hypoventilation syndrome and pulmonary fibrosis. Usually, each of these conditions is diagnosed separately, but knowing their coexistence relationship is important to define the need for diagnostic sleep studies in patients with respiratory diseases, especially when observing a disproportionate degree of pulmonary hypertension caused by their presence.
