Abstract

Prechopping techniques, described by Akahoshi, uses mechanical energy to perform nucleofractis of the nucleus with specially designed forceps. We found it to be very useful in our high-volume cataract services, in terms of safety, decreasing of surgical time, and efficiency, being suitable for almost every case of cataract, even the blacky brunescent nuclei. We will describe in detail, our techniques for prechopping.
