Abstract
This paper analyses the origins of cattle in the province of Socorro (north eastern Colombia) from the dynamics of land ownership, adequacy of pastures on farms and ranches for landraces, economic exchange with the plains of Casanare and livestock interests of the insurgents of 1781. Notarial archives of Socorro, graduate theses on demographics and earth moving and specialist studies on the history of livestock in Colombia, demonstrate that from its origins as a province, the production, exchange and trading of cattle was promoted at the same time as traditional interprovincial trade of honey, tobacco and cotton handicrafts.
