Abstract
This study proposes an innovative workshop aimed at integrating theoretical and practical aspects of pallet inventory management optimization for engineering students. The workshop encompasses a series of phases, beginning with a theoretical exercise where students are introduced to the problem's constraints and requirements using miniature models. Students then develop empirical solutions, progressively integrating new constraints. The methodology includes model formulation, where key concepts like decision variables and constraints are discussed, followed by the development of a Linear Programming model. This model is solved using Excel, considering various scenarios to understand the impact of different constraints. The workshop culminates with a simulation using FlexSim to determine the optimal number of racks and develop inventory policies, and then a layout design in Sketchup. This
hands-on approach not only enhances students' understanding of mathematical modeling but also its scalability in digital solutions, bridging the gap between theory and practical application in educational settings.
