Abstract

The present text analyzes the discussions, developed in the Congress of the Republic of Colombia, about same-sex marriage. The analysis is based on Habermas' view on religion and democracy. This research begins with a brief description of Habermas' proposal and then analyzes the arguments presented in the debates in Congress regarding same-sex marriage. Once the documentary sources have been identified, a critical analysis of discourse is made, which assumes a qualitative methodology on the arguments presented at the different levels of the debate. The result of the analysis made it possible to identify categories of religious arguments used in the political discussion on the draft law analyzed, its deficiency and the difficulties of fulfilling the Habermasian ideal.
