Description

This study examines cardiovascular risk stratification in patients with vascular dementia in South America using the Framingham, PROCAM, and SCORE equations, and assesses the prevalence of metabolic syndrome. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 100 patients diagnosed with vascular dementia between January 2020 and December 2022. The ATP-III criteria were used to identify metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular risk was categorized as low, moderate, or high. Results showed that hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, and smoking were common comorbidities. The risk assessments varied between low, moderate, and high risk, with moderate agreement between the three risk functions (Framingham, PROCAM, and SCORE). The study concluded that, despite the significant presence of cardiovascular risk factors, many patients showed minimal cardiovascular risk. This underscores the importance of considering cardiovascular risk factors in the treatment of vascular dementia due to the high burden of cardiovascular comorbidities.

General Objective

The objective of the study is to evaluate cardiovascular risk stratification in patients with vascular dementia using the Framingham, PROCAM, and SCORE equations and to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in this population.

Specific Objectives
